Recently a couple of images of the Station area in Shamokin have turn up online. I thought I’d post them here so I can fine them when it comes time to model this scene.
These are awesome pictures! They will require careful study, as there are lots of details in these scenes. What really caught my eye, and I now have an idea for a scene on my HO scale RDG layout, are the two artillery pieces and small park area. I did some research, and asked a friend knowledgable on WWII and found out what these are. The one on the right is a US Army M101 105mm Howitzer. This is available in HO from Roco Minitanks. The one on the left is actually German- according to my friend it appears to be a Krupp 105mm dated about 1918. I could not find this in HO scale, but Preiser offers a light howizter (parts 16527 and 16534) that look close. I think the Preiser model is smaller than 105mm. But it would certainly capture the feel and I think it along with the Roco M101 would make a great scene!
Thanks for posting these- so often we overlook the overall scene as we focus mainly on the Locos, Rolling Stock, and RR structures. Have any more??!!
